G2 Gozen Are EMEA’s Queens Yet Again
After two Game Changers EMEA wins in a row, which would have been six had there not been that close 2022 Stage 3 loss to Guild X, you’d be forgiven for assuming that somewhere, somehow, G2 Gozen’s luck would have run out, but they just keep on winning.
This time, however, it was certainly a challenge. While they sailed through their early upper bracket game against Case Hydra (the team’s 13-4 victory on Split was nasty), BBL Queens started strong by taking first map Haven, but couldn’t maintain that momentum across Split and Fracture.
From here, G2 Gozen faced Acend Rising in the upper bracket final, dropping second-map Ascent, but coming back strong as ever on Haven, securing a spot in the finals. There they faced FUT Female, whose impressive lower bracket run saw them drop just two maps before taking down Acend 3-0 to make the Grand Finals, which was hardly something to smirk at. Could they continue their run and finally bring down EMEA’s finest?
It started well with the first map Fracture ending in overtime, but ultimately ending 14-12 in G2 Gozen’s favor. Lotus looked solid for Gozen, who took the map 13-6 to go 2-0 up, but FUT Female took them to a fourth game after securing a 13-10 victory on Pearl. However, Haven was a one-sided affair throughout, with Gozen finishing the first half 10-2. While FUT Female pushed back, they were no match for the might of Michaela “mimi” Lintrup, whose Viper simply proved too toxic to handle.
Closing out 13-3, Gozen hoisted the Game Changers trophy yet again, with their sights firmly set on Stage 3. When Petra “Petra” Stoker was asked about G2 Gozen’s chances of winning the EMEA triple for the first time this year she said, "We have a new goal I guess, challenge accepted for sure". With their skill and determination, G2 Gozen are surely set to see even more success, but we’ll have to wait until later this year to see how well they perform in Stage 3!
