Giants and NAVI Secure their Champions Los Angeles Spots
From the get-go EMEA’s finest brought the fire, hoping to join Fnatic, Team Liquid, and FUT Esports in the City of Angels for Champions 2023. Both Giants and NAVI began the competition in the upper bracket semi-final as a result of their regular season placement, and whilst Giants took down Karmine Corp, NAVI suffered a shocking loss against KOI, who knocked them down into the lower bracket with surprising ease.
There they faced Karmine Corp, emerging triumphant despite the legendary headshots (and entries) of Adil ‘ScreaM’ Benrlitom. Meanwhile, Giants 2-0’d KOI in the upper bracket final and secured their Champions spot, pitting NAVI against KOI once more in a bid for the last remaining place. Despite 3 very close maps across Split, Pearl, and Fracture, NAVI came out on top in a series where the whole team performed at their very best.
Now all that remained were Giants - could NAVI pull out a winning lower bracket run despite all odds? The answer was no. Pulling out a wild Yoru pick on Bind to kick things off, Giants took the first map. They then took Lotus 13-7 with relative ease. It all came down to Haven, but IGL Emir ‘Rhyme’ Muminovic sealed the deal with a series of mind-boggling Raze plays to put the show to an end!
Marking the conclusion of VCT EMEA and the dawn of Champions, LCQ EMEA did not disappoint. How will Giants and NAVI fare on the international stage? We’ll have to wait and see, but neither team should be unestimated despite Žygimantas “nukkye” Chmieliauskas believing that Giants will “come as underdogs”.
Make sure to watch VALORANT Champions 2023 - starting from August 6th!
